This programme aims to increase healthy lifestyles and awareness of healthy lifestyles in children of a Primary school age using a fun mascot and fun exciting games in an assembly atmosphere.
Through a school assembly pupils will take part in an interactive assembly held by the Community Department Coaching staff and fun mascot Arty (Artorius the Centurion). Participants will be told all about a balanced diet and take part in fun interactive quiz games that will help identify a good lifestyle from a bad lifestyle. The assembly will use Arty as a good role model and will centre the emphasis of the assembly on fun learning.
A full day's event taking place at a local community venue in partnership with the PCT, the programme is aimed at children aged 7-11years old who suffer from asthma in the Leigh area.
Participants take part in several fun activities designed to educate sufferers in how to manage their asthma and share their experience with others including the clubs first team players. The participants as well as taking part in fun activities, take part in a educated circle time listening to each other explain what it is like living with asthma and learning from each other. Participants take part in fun active games such as pass tennis, bench ball, 6 pass and ladders.
The activities also included art activities as a way of evaluating the impact of the programme and fun respiratory games including blow football, the Malteser race and balloon blowing.
The programme takes place every year and the participants are referred by local GP's and school nurses.
